 Program Description

We believe that everyone, regardless of disability, can live in the community. This means designing programs to meet individual needs, not fitting people into pre-existing programs.

For many, a community based staffed resource is the way to go. For others, especially individuals whose needs involve consistency, minimizing changes or individuals that want to work towards more independence, family care is a perfect option.

The program involves matching up individuals with full time caregivers. They live in the caregiver’s home in their own bedroom or a suite in the home. They share space, meals, household duties and live together as a roommate or family member would.

The people that provide care come in all shapes and sizes. They are singles, couples or families. As with all our work, we welcome diversity. They are experienced, committed people that want to share their lives with someone with a disability.

Caregivers undergo an intensive screening process, that includes a criminal record search and detailed home study with questions about lifestyle, personal supports, values and family dynamics.

Family care is an organic, uncontrived residential option for individuals looking for an alternative to staffed resources.
